I don't remember. I'll check when I get access to the Controller again. It's a really basic setup with the main goal of getting the transport controls to work. The slider assignments and the template track was just something added to get going. Again, I'll look into it again but it'll be a few days. :) Edit: Still confused about what the actual problem is here. It's a bit baffling, this should work straight away.
The bottom line is that whatever I do, I can only get it working on channel 1. But please don't worry about this. I'm gonna give it a few days break and try again. I may just be doing something fundamentally wrong. Stan
Back again with access to the Oxygen-49. To start over from the beginning I did a factory reset of the Oxygen by turning it off and the holding down the + and - button while powering on. Went to Actions --> show actions list. Pressed Import/Export in lower left corner and then selected 'Restore all bindings to factory defaults'. This cleared everything. The Oxygen does not control any Reaper parameters with the knobs/sliders/buttons. It does however still change VSTi synth presets with the + and - buttons if you press 'Select' until the dot on the display is above 'Presets'. This is however irrelevant to this topic. Now, import the Oxygen49 KeyMap file that you downloaded from the stash and placed in the KeyMap folder (exact location specified earlier). At this point the Transport buttons on the Oxygen can control the Transport functions in Reaper (Start, Stop, Pause, Loop and so on). Also, Slider 9 on the controller (button C9) now controls the Master Volume (Reaper window needs to be active, you can not have a browser window active for example). The button under the slider (C26) toggles the Mute on the master track if the track is selected (The button is set up to toggle Mute on the selected track) Now add 8 tracks. SLiders 1-8 (C1-C8) will now control the Volume controls on these tracks. Note that the controls have not been assigned with 'soft take-over' (I recommend doing that since the controls are more usable that way). The 'Track' buttons < and > on the controller will now control the track selection. This was the basic setup I started with. There is no way this will not work for you. The limitations to this is that the sliders on the controller can only control track 1 to 8 and Master. There might be a way of programming the Oxygen itself to allow for switching banks of 8 tracks. The track template doesn't do anything besides creating a project with 8 tracks and assigning track 1 to respond to MIDI 1, track 2 to MIDI 2 and so on. This is as much help I can give on this. It should work. Enjoy the Oxygen.
Thanks so much for all the comments. In my meanderings, what I've found is that the 8 faders in the Oxygen49 allow you to control just 8 tracks in Reaper (plus the 9th fader for Master). That's it. So you're limited to 8 tracks. If you want to assign a rotary knob to another track, you cannot do so. What you CAN do is to use the ACTION menu item, to allocate various attributes such as Pan, Envelope, etc to the extra knobs and buttons on the keyboard. There are two problems that you've got to be aware of though. The first is that there is are a mass of attributes listed under the ACTION menu, and you have to do a search and know what you're looking for. The second problem which compounds the first, is that, depending on which synth plugin you're using, you may not be able to control them all, so you have to associate your keyboard allocation to one that can be controlled within the plugin pop-up window itself. When you realize that, you can stop tearing your hair out by allocating a control to an attribute that CAN be controlled. For instance, taking a simple example, you may have two piano synth plugins from different manufacturers. The one may allow you to allocate an envelope attribute, whereas the other may not. Frustrating, but that's how it works. So its not a perfect solution, but it works if you are aware of the limitations and know what you're doing. I'm now tackling the drum pads on the Oxygen - another kettle of fish. So far, not having a drum kit, I've succeeded in allocating them to specific notes on a piano plugin, but am sure there's a lot that one can do with them if you're into creating your own drum track - which I'm not. I'm just using drum loops and samples in the editing stage - not live performance. So I think that I may have solved my own problem, but its been a truly harrowing experience, and I hope that these finding will help other readers as well. Stan
It really takes someone who knows MIDI in more detail to do all the tricks needed here so take what I say and post here as a backroom-hack attempt to make it work. :) Even if it is a low-end controller it's actually got a lot of features and there are many programmable feature (see manual), most go above my head. However, I made a new KeyMap file where it is setup in a different way. Below is the setup for the 'v2' version (soon posted to the Stash). Instead of assigning a slider to a specific track the setup now works on the 'Selected Track'. Here is a picture showing the setup. Note that the Oxygen needs to be set to 'Program 10' for this (and the precious) setup.
Aha.... "I'm now tackling the drum pads on the Oxygen..." You've got a newer version. Mine is an older Oxygen-49 Mk III. No drum pads. That's likely to be the problem.
