.rpp extension missing when saving projects.

Running macos monterey 12.0.1 Start a new project. file -> save project as -> enter file name, check that reaper is set to save as a reaper project (.rpp) end result, file with chosen name saved, but .rpp extension is missing. if I manually add .rpp to the file, it will then open properly in reaper. Anyone else seen this? Deleted reaper preferences and downloaded latest version of reaper, problem still happens.

This has happened a few times with me on a Win7 machine? Just when I used the "save as" Strange, I thought it was use error on my part
