YES, IT IS. They've made a calculated marketing decision to offer freeware to generate sales. What's wrong with that? Nothing. Releasing a freeware program that isn't compatible with a wide variety of PC's has left them open to criticism. It's a risk they decided to take. They'll deal with it as they choose. So What? Digidesign is in a very competitive marketplace. Their products have some stong points, but they have a long way to go in eclipsing the best features of some other Windows PC audio software. Time will tell whether they can, or will, do it within a competitively affordable price range. You can't argue that we all stand to benefit if they do. I've done my fair share of complaining about PTFree not working in my system, in reflection, it was silly. My requirements for audio go way beyond PTFree's abilities anyway. By the way, even though it's like comparing apples to oranges, I'm not aware of Sonic Foundry offering a free version of ACID... Happy New Year!
I think there's a free version of Acid called acid xpress or something that you can download from the sonicfoundry site it's also limited to 8 tracks and I guess it works fine they are different fruits anyway e
i would agree...its a sample. i think thats why it wont work with higher end soundcards. but they are in business, if it worked with all soundcards they would probably lose sales. i wish it would work with mine so i could check it out before buying the full version, but i dont hold it against them. now the AMIII card is another story...I finally sold mine...i spent more time trying to get thing to work then i did creating music and the support for it was very poor. thats why i wont buy any digi unless i would be able to check it out. they make some great stuff but the support leaves something to be desired. at least in the area of the AMIII for PC's. i'm not talking about the support for PTF...i think for a free program they respond on here as much as you could expect. but i paid alot of money for the AMIII.
getting back to the original topic, yes it is the drug pushing model of biz but oh what a drug! I have a mixplus system at work but over the holidays got a call from a client had to do some music editting. I didn't want to go into work (to far to drive) so i downloaded a free music ripper and made wave files then downloaded PT free bought the D-Verb plug in for 49.00 and then in about 4 hours made $1000, i don't care why they're giving it away but DIGI Rocks!!! thanks for the free money.

Eddyboy is so happy he said it twice! I wish I knew a fool who pays $250 an hour for editing! Give me his number! By the way EddieBoy, did you take your free money and buy a Digi001?
