I hard wired an INFORAD camera locator into mine last year by finding a switched live on the fuse board in the side panel by the driver's door and splicing into that with a scotchlok connector, then running the cable up behind the dash and out in the corner of the screen pillar on the driver's side. It's worked well for me and it's very neat. The fuse panel unclips quite easily to allow access to the rear. To make doubly sure I was selecting a switched supply and connecting to the fused side I used a DMM to check the voltages, with and without the fuse in place, before I made any permanent connections. You could use a 12v LED (one of those go faster coloured lights beloved of boy racers) to check the supplies if you haven't got a meter. You'd also need to make sure that the TOMTOM current drain isn't too high such that it loads the particular circuit you use; I'd be surprised if it is, but it's worth making sure.
