flat battery current drain

MessageAuthor

Hello folks, I need advice please, last night for the 1st time my alarm went off after several attempts to find the fault lights on, doors not shut, windows open, the usual checks, nothing was on or open. I just locked it up with the key, this morning flat battery, charged it up run it round the block and there again alarm was triggered, I put a amp meter on the battery and have a drain on it of 3 or 4 amp, any ideas I remember something on here a few years ago about the immobiliser/central locking. has any one had the same problem? Its a 1999 2.4 140bhp v70 non turbo "classic"

Leave the meter in position and pull the fuses one by one until you spot the system that has the load on it. Pookie

RE: flat battery current drain

The issue: Central locking is opening and closing itself and approximately 10 minute intervals, this also sets the alarm which means that when door is opened the alarm activates and can only be stopped by putting key in ignition and turning to start point. After this the car runs with no problems at all. Of course if car is not started and run then this problem eventually drains the battery down. Fob was not working when I got the car which left me using the key to open and lock the vehicle. The other night I found mention on here of a fix for this by way of opening the fob, removing battery, pushing button 6 times to drain capacitors and replacing batteries. This worked for 24 hours and I thought I had solved the problem, but tonight it is back to the same issue. The only way I can stop the central locking from opening and closing on it's own accord and the battery from draining down is to not lock the car, not ideal when your a photographer travelling around with kit. Can anyone help on this? I would be very, very grateful. Otherwise I fear an expensive trip to the dealer. I bought the vehicle after many months of wondering whether to change from the Focus or not and am beginning to wonder if I made the right move.
